We give flowers first and foremost because we are aware of the transformational and joyous effects they may have on others. There are additional reasons why receiving a flower makes you happy besides simply being glad to receive a flower that you didn't have before. Knowing that someone smiled, selected flowers they thought you might appreciate, and gave them to you makes you happy.
